The Challenge

A publicly traded telecom company retained Sovereign’s principals after suffering a devastating ransomware attack. Hackers had breached two company servers, encrypting and exporting a variety of confidential and highly sensitive information, from employee data to the company’s M&A strategy.

The Strategy

We worked around the clock with the company’s legal and cybersecurity advisers to create and distribute internal and external communications and messaging, including executive messages, press releases for the public markets and FAQs. We also prepared the company’s executives for media interviews in case the situation escalated further and required media relations engagement.

The Results

The company’s stock market valuation remained essentially unchanged, with observers and analysts crediting its rapid and public response to what was happening. The company remediated the breach and was able to return to normal-course business in a matter of weeks.

The Conclusion

Sovereign has the crisis communications experience and expertise to navigate any cybersecurity incident while preserving organizational reputation, market cap and customer and employee credibility.
